Now don’t get me wrong, I love this profession. I love the difficult parts, the strategic side and all the operational parts of the job and as an HR Manager in a smallish workplace I am a generalist who has to have a go at everything which gives me great experience in all these areas. What I don’t love – is the jargon this profession puts around itself. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m a straight shooter who says it like it is and I don’t mince words. All of that I guess lends itself to not loving some of the terminology used in HR.
This is probably a bit controversial, obviously as I consider myself a professional in the field and want to continue to work in the area, but it’s my blog so I’ll write what I like (I told you!).
Why do we use terms that no one else knows what they mean? What is that about? Do we look more important, does it get us closer to the all important seat at the table? Call me old school or call me crazy but I like the good old fashioned words that Managers that I work with everyday can understand.
Here’s my list of “what the?” words and phrases that I think we should do away with NOW!
